Introducing Me...and why you should care about anything I say
Hi, I’m Whitney. And you’re watching Disney Channel!
Bum bum. Bum bum.
Anyway, clear undiagnosed ADHD aside, I have been creating theatre content on TikTok and Instagram for a little bit now and trying to carve out my own little corner in the theatre influencer community. It is hard - let me tell you - to be your own person, create things other people want to see, and find the time for it all. I have so many ideas for different things to create and post, but some of it doesn’t fit. So, that is what I hope this Substack will be. Even if it’s just for me to have the writing outlet I have been craving.
A little about me: I have been a theatre kid since birth. I didn’t know it then, obviously, but theatre became the only place I could truly be myself very early on. I started dancing at the age of two, took piano lessons at five, and began singing solos in church at six. Then it was years of choirs and school Christmas productions until high school, where my absolute love of the theatre was learned and cultivated. High school still carries my best theatre memories. So naturally, I got a BA in Theatre, and my love of theatre only grew. Since then, I have worked in and around theatre in many capacities: events, teaching, performance, front of house, back of house, and administration. I’m glad I have been able to keep it part of my life, but something was missing. I was seeing shows here and there, but it wasn’t enough. By then, so many life changes had happened that I couldn’t go backward - and honestly, I didn’t want to. I just wanted theatre back in my life. I started seeing more and more shows and posting about them because of the immense joy I felt from attending them. Now, I am hoping to see everything I possibly can and encourage everyone to see them!
A little about my content: I love plays (in fact, I write them), but I love musicals and I love talking about them even more! I create fun and positive videos, including lip syncs and other series, that relate to theatre. I also post about the shows that I see. They are reviews, but they aren’t rankings or anything like that. I think everyone should go and see everything because what I may not like, someone might choose as their favorite show. So I share information as I have it, hoping to reach people who might not have otherwise heard about the show and encourage them to attend something they may love.
This substack is where I will post the long-form content I want to make that doesn’t exactly fit in with the rest of my content. Things like actor spotlights and lyrical analysis will hopefully make for a fun read. If not, it will definitely be a fun write!
Hope you enjoy!
Let me know if there are other things you want my opinion on <3
